Abstract

Background. Gynodioecy is a sexual dimorphism at which a population features two types of plants: with pistillate flowers and with perfect flowers. The aim of the work is to study sexual dimorphism in the flower structure of O. vulgare.
Materials and methods. The material was collected from the wild of Moscow region in 2015–2016. The morphology of 50 perfect and 50 pistillate flowers was studied. The sizes of flower parts were measured by means of a three-dimensional microscope Biomed MS-1.
Results. Two types of flowers (perfect and pistillate) were clearly mark out. Both types of flowers were median-zygomorphic, cyclic, 4-circular, with double tubular perianth, with bright painted corolla, with nectary. In pistillate flowers the authors observed a reduction of androecium, represented by staminodes, and a decrease in calyx and corolla sizes.
Conclusions. Gynodioecy (existence of perfect and pistillate flowers), temporal (protandry) and spatial isolationn (herkogamy) of pollen and stigmas provide outbreeding of O. vulgare.
